five things, april 5 edition
1. I think I'm so excited to share that a photograph of mine has been included in an article on mid-century aarchitecture in a publication called Inform! The article highlights my friend Bill's work and uses one of his beautiful homes as an example, and I couldn't be more thrilled for him!
2. I think my friend Theresa wrote a wonderful and vulnerable post about blogging this week. Most of you have already seen it and I found the comments section just as thoughtful and moving as the post itself. We all go through these moments of self-doubt and self-reflection about why we're in these spaces, and Theresa captures those moments so beautifully. I'm glad she's here! I'm glad you all are! I'm committing to be a better steward of our relationships and my own space here. (Having trouble linking to Theresa's site right now, but as soon as I can get it up here, I will.)
3. I think I'll just have to say there's no shame in saying out loud that I adore diamonds. There. I said it. They are my birthstone, and I have always loved their clear bright fire. Neel and I just had some old diamonds of mine repurposed into some simple earrings and we finally picked them up this week. There's a lot of sentimental allure to these particular stones for me, and I'm so happy to have them.
4. I think I'm so happy my mom is here! She and her friend Mike arrived yesterday afternoon, just in time for Callum's game. We stood in the chilly 40º weather as our boys scored some runs and got out in front of this other team. Callum finally made it up to bat (he's one of the less experienced kids on the team, so while it happens every game, it doesn't happen often in every game) and got a walk-off hit to end the game! On the way home he told us he'd scored 100 on a pop quiz in math! What a day! That night at dinner he said that getting that 100 felt as good as getting that hit. I'm totally emailing his math teacher and telling him that today. And my mom was here for it all.
5. I think this is why I take pictures of food. Yesterday, after popping up a picture on facebook of the ham and bean soup I made using our leftover Easter ham, my friend Jan left me this note: Hambone soup. My sister in law Florence who passed away in December looked forward to a ham just for the leftover bone and she made the best soup with it!! Thanks for sharing this photo. It made me remember that the little things are the best way to remember someone. For me, food is all about connection and intimacy, and I try to capture that when I take pictures of food. This comment was honestly one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about one of my photographs. It says it all, doesn't it?
On our way to a great weekend! I'm the lucky loan-ee of a 40mm pancake lens thanks to a friend in my photography group, so you can bet I'll be trying that puppy out. Baseball game on Saturday on the exotic Eastern Shore (now hopefully arson free!), and lots of time with my mom and Mike. What are you up to my lovelies? Anything thing fun planned? Oh, and I still hate all my clothes. Given the fact that it was SLEETING by the end of Cal's game, I perhaps hate them even more now.

Awesome news about the photo of your friend's house! Way to go, girl. I can't wait to see more of your beisbol photos and what you find pic-worthy in the Eastern Shore. I am so sorry I missed you guys yesterday. Just didn't want to leave Kona for so long (I had a 12:45 appointment as well).
My weekend will be quiet...working in the yard with Keith, getting in a long run or two and watching over the Kona Bean and her fascination with sharp pointy things (like sticks) that she should NOT be swallowing right now. Oh, the good times! They just keep coming.
Congratulations on your photo being published Lauren - that's a huge accomplishment and you should feel so very proud!
Sorry about the crummy weather but people TELL me that it's spring. I'll believe it when I see it.
So proud of you! Photo by Lauren L Keim! Way cool. And the food photo looks good enough to eat--be careful taking it out of the oven, though. Remember the handle is hot.
sweeeet!! i remember that picture! very exciting. i knew that your photos were magazine worthy! i can't wait to see that pancake lens. that actual dutch pancake is making me feel crazy. i love those more than anything in the world and i need to find a gluten-free recipe. oh my goodness that looks sooo goood!
i agree theresa's post was so well written and brave. i have actually gone back to read it a few times now and read all the new comments.
hope you have a great weekend! go cal!! i think i am going to clean the closet under my stairs this weekend and some other fun things : )
SQUEAL Go Lauren!!! That's so exciting and SO deserved and overdue. Eeeks I'm so thrilled for you! Have you been pinching yourself all day? I don't know how you kept that in without bursting to tell everyone! How awesome that Cal had a slam dunk of a day (mixing sports metaphors, woohoo). I wish I had been there to see his walk off home run! Just know that I was cheering him (and you!) on from up here. Like always. Have a wonderful weekend with your mom. I'm finally peeling myself away from my work laptop, I've been glued to it all day today like a busy little worker bee. UGH. Hoping to disconnect for the weekend. Hoping. xoxo
1. Yay Lauren! That is such exciting news! And I love that your dad thinks it's way cool (I do too).
2. I think Theresa's words said what many of us are feeling; or feel from time to time. I adore her honesty.
3. I am so glad you got your diamonds reset. Such precious memories...
4. Enjoy the time with your mum! And congratulations to Cal for his 100 and his hit! x
5. So perfect.
Happy weekend... have fun with your 40mm xxx
lauren - i read theresa's post in florida and wanted to comment right away, but my honey was doing the dishes and my kids needed attention. sound familiar? now i can't get to it either.
regarding food - exactly! your photo connected with jan. and before it connected with him, it nourished your family, too. we work hard to have family meals during our busy weeks, and one of my goals is to cook more. i like it, but not when rushed, so we'll see how it goes. it will be easier in the summer.
all great news - jewelry, lens, and visitors. enjoy!! xo, n
First, the important stuff. Congratulations on getting your beautiful photo published!! You've got one proud friend over here. And congratulations to Callum on his 100 and walk-off hit! (Go, Callum! It's your birthday!). Oh, your new earrings sound beautiful! Hm, perhaps they'll somehow show up in a photo. ;) The FB comment really does say it all, about treasuring the little moments and about your photography. It's all beautiful.
Thank you so much for the shout out, Lauren! I'm just embarrassed that I didn't make my way over here until just now. Let's just say that I was frustrated with my site being down and not being able to figure out the snafu. I was trying to finally change my blogspot URL to a custom URL and, for whatever reason, blogger wouldn't redirect. In the end, after many attempts and calls into Go Daddy, I simply went back to the old blogspot URL. After all that! (Thank you so much for checking up on me.)
I have to admit those types of posts - the really personal ones - are never easy to write or share. But, then, the comments start arriving. Bits of wisdom and support are shared, and any fear I had is washed away. It's cathartic for me to write those types of posts. However, what makes me most happy is the shared community. If I can help us talk about something we're all mutually experiencing, that's the sweet spot and I'm instantly reminded why we do what we do. Thank you so much for your support and friendship, L. xo
