supper club, inaugural edition {life}
Before I tell you about our Supper Club, I have to thank you for all your kind comments on Tuesday's House Proud post. It's the first in what I hope will be a series of many. Your words meant so much to me and to Bill as well. I've responded to each of you in the comments section, and in case you're interested, that house is now on the market for just over $1.2M. It is, we think, is priced to sell!
Way back last fall, my friend Catherine and I concocted the idea of pulling together a supper club. We were having lunch together and brainstorming all sorts of things. She's a chef and I like to eat, so it made sense. We wanted people who weren't generally connected to each other, who loved food but didn't need to be great cooks (Catherine did manage to stack the deck, I will say) and who would take the event seriously enough to get together every six weeks or so. Our first meeting was November 17, 2012 (and I'm finally blogging about it). Because we were all meeting for the first time, we landed on a tapas or small bites theme. Everyone brought two small bites, or a small bite and a dessert. From here on out, the host will choose a theme and make the entree. It's up to everyone else to provide a supporting role!

Those clams and shrimp look amazing. What a brilliant idea this is. Any excuse to spend more time with fabulous people and have a great night of interesting conversation and good humor, right? I think we all need more times like this. And more clams. I love clams. Everyone looks so happy and relaxed, drinks in hand, smiles on their faces. I can hear the laughter, through your photos. Good luck with your hosting turn! What's the menu so far?
Oooh, how lovely! The Hubster and I fantasised about something like this recently but, in truth, we'd need to wait for the current whirlwind of activity to settle down first!
The food looks great and your photography captured the evening beautifully - I can almost hear the clinking of glasses and the gentle hum of conversation. :)
So what did you bring?
Can't wait to read about yours in a few days! :D xoxo
Wow, Lauren. This looks like it could be a friends' gathering featured in a foodie mag. Bon Appetit? Food & Wine? Southern Living? Man, you made us, and our food look good! I am SO looking forward to Saturday's gathering. See you then, you talented photog, you!
These photos are marvelous! I'm so excited about the next one. Wonderful work (as always) Lauren!!!
1.2m for Bill's house, never! I can't believe that's so inexpensive. That's a beautiful property and you have made the most from the lighting streaming in. Well done Lauren.
Your supper club looks wonderful, and that menu is a-m-a-zing, can I come next time ? x
you are amazing, such a doer! what a great idea. it looks like you have a lot of chefs in your club, everything looks delicious and now my belly is rumbling. and your photos! always such a lovely perspective that makes me feel like i am right there too. now if i could only reach in and have a bite!
What a fun and wonderful idea! I might have to pinch it, as Annie says. ;) Don't even get me started on all the delicious food and photos of smiling, happy people. ^^ That above is what life is all about. Hm, I wonder how much a round trip ticket to Norfolk would cost on January 12th? Darn, Lauren, why don't you live in Southern California anymore? Ok, enough with the silly questions. I have a very strong feeling that this new supper club is going to be a highlight for your 2013, among other things. Cheers!
As I read these comments it was fun to see that everyone else who commented got the same feeling from the photos...of almost being there and being able to imagine what a pleasure it would have been to be there. I think it had to be great fun but it's great photography that brings the whole thing alive for the rest of us. Well done! And another well done to the clever cooks that brought it all together.
What a fun idea! Isn't food, good company and maybe a glass of wine or two the best? All the food looks delicious and my mouth is watering just from looking at the photos.
Your photos just get better and better. Beautiful work!

Whoa - looks like quite a hefty menu. The supper club is such a good idea and a great way of finding new recipes that you like
You're back!!!! Hooray! I was getting worried. You could tell me not to worry but I was worried.
Wonderful, wonderful post Lauren. You're photos captured the warmth of the occasion beautifully, you are a talented photographer! xx
