I have to say, I think it was a good call on Cal's school's part to have this little two-day week and then BOOM, the weekend. We needed it. Re-entry is a bear, man. We had to celebrate those exams Friday night, and Callum chose wings, of course. The Dirty Buffalo is a great local wing joint that is as much home for families as it is for the local college crowd. It's my boy's all-time favorite restaurant. I'm happy when he's happy. After dinner, a neighbor of ours stopped by for a drink by the fire and a chat. Wings for the kids, Tequila for the dads. (I had wine) Not a bad trade.
Saturday morning we all SLEPT IN. Callum heard me go downstairs after seven and he called out, "You slept in! Congratulations!" He promptly fell back asleep. While I went to the grocery store (and really, this was a miserable part of my weekend: forgot my list, they were out of the stuff I did remember, the store was packed, and traffic getting home was awful) Neel and a bunch of other neighbors, including several of the kids, helped Tequila Bill (the guy who came by on Friday) get a dresser up to his 2nd floor bedroom... through the 2nd floor window. I missed all the fun! They only broke one window! Tequila Bill made wings for everybody as a thank you for helping out, and we all sat outside talking (just in time for the Grateful Dead Concert Hour on Sirius) on one of those gorgeous days that January can sometimes steal from the spring. What was even better was when I said, "The only thing that would make this better would be a Bloody Mary," and then one magically appeared. Life is good.
Cal spent the afternoon and evening at some basketball games, so I spent the day fighting battles with some website stuff. Maddening really, but I'm sure this kind of thing has never happened to any of you, right? Neel hung some lights that he got for Christmas and once it got dark, we spent all evening looking at them. Sunday we SLEPT IN AGAIN! I could get used to this! Neel and I ran some quick errands (including back to the grocery store for the things I didn't get on Saturday) while Callum did homework. It's been gray, gray, gray here for days and days, which I don't mind, but if it's going to be gray and cold, it may as well snow. Seriously.
People, I know I'll regret saying this, famous last words and all, but so far I am thoroughly enjoying my 356 Project. I tried a Project 52 (a photo a week) last year, but it didn't captivate me nearly the way this has. I like thinking about the pictures I'm going to take and being intentional about them. I had thoughts about what I wanted to do on Saturday and ended up with something entirely different. And Sunday? All day I knew exactly what I wanted to do; I just had to wait for the light (and the lights). (I'm editing it in that last photo in the collage.) I can see how a process like this can really push you, and I'm ready for that. This doesn't mean that I won't get tired or sick or bored or totally cop out at times, but right now? It feels good, and I'm happy. How was your weekend? Hope yours made you as happy as mine made me!

Hi Lauren, I haven't had a chance to thank you for the lovely comment you left on my last blog post of 2013. I do appreciate your words so much. Glad to hear you're getting lots of sleep ins at your house. We are on summer holidays until around 30th January so lots of sleep ins too except for hubby who started back at work this week (feel very guilty saying goodbye then rolling over!!!) I hope you get your snow. The 356 Project sounds amazing, glad you're enjoying it. Catherine x
I agree, Lauren. The 365 project has been good for me. I'm thinking about what I want to take. The only thing I haven't done is edit my photos before uploading. Maybe I should - on at least some of them, anyway. Sure would be nice though to have SOMEone following my project and giving me some input/critique...I feel all alone out there in 365 Land. Hint, hint.
Great post, once again. I want to be your neighbor. :-)
Your weekend sounds fabulous. I need to try the, "The only thing that would make this moment better is a drink!" thing and see if the universe plants one in front of me as magically :) I can totally top your dresser-through-the-window story! My brother and his wife moved into their first house and their king size mattress didn't fit in the doorway, so the movers fashioned a rope-pulley system and hoisted the sucker up 4 stories to the master bedroom balcony and brought it in through the sliding door. I'm not sure how they got it out when they moved last summer, come to think of it. We had a picture of that on our fridge for years though, haha.
I love you for thinking "sleeping in" means 7am. Woman. We didn't get out of bed until 11 both days this weekend and I could have slept for longer. I love that you're feeling enthused about 365! I am too!!
one of those gorgeous days that January can sometimes steal from the spring - what a lovely expression, I'm going to pinch that if you don't mind ;)
I have been sleeping in a lot too which is very frustrating and I feel very unproductive :(
boo to grocery shopping, I've just set up an online delivery.
I love that Callum has a favourite restaurant. I want to make myself like bloody marys as I always think they are so glam x
sleeping in for me is about 7:30, if I sleep past then i just feel off for the rest of the day. i do wish i could sleep in better once in awhile though! today i woke up at 5 am and that's a little too early, it was dark for the first 3 hours this morning! - hence it has also been very grey here too.
i am always slow to start things (commitment issues) but once i do commit i am die hard, so i am still getting used to the idea of 365 - it's growing on me : ) my weekend was pretty much eaten alive by my new "find the perfect camera for the perfect price" obsession. yikes, it going to be a long couple weeks until i actually decide on one.
Yep, I've been sleeping in too, 7am here in the UK is still completely dark so it's no wonder! BUT 7am is hardly a lie in lady!
Tequila Bill, what a cool name to be known by.
I'm going to go look at your 365 x
OH, I also caught that beautiful expression - "...January can sometimes steal from the spring." Just when I was starting to wonder how you all were sitting outside in January, you provided that lovely tidbit. Your weekend sounds like it was wonderful. I want to wish for something (like a yummy Bloody Mary) and have it magically appear. Nice! Happy - really happy - to read that the 365 is bringing you some joy and you're having fun with it.
You've done a great job with your photography project and I really enjoy following you on Instagram and seeing the exciting things you have going on
just an fyi . . . sometimes i comment and it doesn't seem to show up? like on this post : )
Hurray for enjoying doing the 365 project and sleeping in! I can't sleep in, at least not past 8:30, by that time I get restless and even though I may be still tired I just can't stay in bed...
hello friend - finally getting to visit. two things - 1. i love your "necessary treats"! i stopped at graeter's on the way home for some peppermint ice cream with hot fudge. soon that flavor will be gone for the year, so it is a necessary treat. you understand! also - i'm with you about snow! if it's gray, let's have it! joy to you, n
